Frequently asked questions

What is biltong and how is it different from jerky?

Biltong is air-dried, spiced beef (not cooked). It’s typically thicker-cut, with a savoury, lightly tangy flavour from vinegar, coriander and black pepper. Jerky is usually heat-dried, thinner, and often sweeter.

I've seen you on the hairy bikers. where should i start?

Start with our Taster Box. It includes one of each flavour and product, so you can sample the full range and find your favourites.

What makes Inyama Biltong different?

We only use 100% pasture-fed beef from regenerative farms in Devon, never imported or grain-finished meat. Our biltong is made in small batches with no added sugar, no MSG, and minimal preservatives – just real food with real flavour

Is your biltong grass-fed?

Better – it’s pasture-fed and finished, meaning our cattle graze naturally on grass, herbs, and legumes for their entire lives. This supports healthier animals, tastier beef, and regenerative farming that helps restore the land.

Is biltong healthy?

Yes! Biltong is naturally high in protein, low in carbs, and free from refined sugars. It’s a great choice for anyone following keto, paleo, or low-carb diets, or anyone just looking for a clean, satisfying snack.

Is your biltong made in the UK?

Yes – we make all of our biltong right here in Devon, UK, using local beef and traditional South African methods. It’s a proper blend of British sourcing and South African heritage.

How long will my order take? Do you run pre-orders as a small-batch producer?

Yes — we’re small-batch and made-to-order, running three batches per month on a 7-day cycle. We often open pre-orders between batches. Orders in a live batch window are dispatched right after packing (Day 7). If you need biltong for a specific date, reach out to confirm the next dispatch before ordering.

Does your biltong contain preservatives?

We use a small amount of potassium sorbate to ensure food safety and extend shelf life. It’s a commonly used preservative that helps prevent mould – especially important in air-dried meat products – but we use it sparingly.

How long does biltong last?

Our biltong typically has a shelf life of 4–5 weeks unopened, depending on the batch. Once opened, we recommend eating it within a few days for the best texture and flavour. Store it in a cool, dry place – or refrigerate if you prefer a firmer chew.

Why has my biltong gone mouldy?

Mould needs moisture + warmth + oxygen. Common causes: an unsealed bag, prolonged exposure to air after opening, warm/humid storage, or transferring to a non-airtight container.
What to do: Don’t eat it. Take photos (front/back of pack and date code) and contact us so we can investigate and sort it.

Is your biltong gluten-free?

Yes – our biltong is 100% gluten-free, with no wheat-based fillers or flavourings.

Is it halal/kosher?

Our beef is sourced from small, family-run regenerative farms in Devon and is not currently halal or kosher certified.

Can I collect my order in person?

We don’t offer collection — our unit is production-only. Wefulfil all orders online and deliver straight to yo ur door.
