When The Hairy Bikers Rode Into Our Biltong Kitchen
As Seen on The Hairy Bikers Go West: Our Inyama Biltong Story
There are some days in business that feel completely surreal.
For us, one of those days was standing outside our little biltong unit in Devon, microphones clipped on, cameras pointing at us, pretending to be calm while waiting for The Hairy Bikers to arrive.
Very normal behaviour, obviously.
The crew had arrived first to set everything up. We were buzzing with nerves and excitement, trying to look relaxed while secretly checking our teeth, brushing spice dust off our clothes and reminding ourselves how to speak like normal human beings on camera.
Then came the message.
Dave and Si were on their way.
A few moments later, we heard the sound of motorbikes.
That was the first time we met them. No rehearsal. No warm-up. Just Dave Myers and Si King pulling up outside our unit with huge smiles, cameras rolling, and us doing our best not to look completely overwhelmed.
Meeting Dave and Si

The thing that struck us straight away was how warm they were.
We were nervous, of course we were, but within seconds they had us laughing. They had such a natural way of making people feel comfortable, and very quickly it felt less like a TV shoot and more like showing two genuinely interested people around our little business.
They asked proper questions. They wanted to know how we made our biltong, where the idea came from, why we cared so much about the beef we use, and what made our product different.
That meant a lot to us.
Inyama started in our kitchen, born from Donwynne missing a real taste of home from South Africa. Like many good ideas, it began with a craving, a small biltong dryer, and a slightly chaotic amount of enthusiasm.
What started as something we made for ourselves quickly became something we wanted to share. We knew we did not just want to make any biltong. We wanted to make proper biltong, using high-quality beef, simple ingredients and no shortcuts.
Sharing our biltong with The Hairy Bikers
During filming, we walked Dave and Si through our process, from the beef and spice blends to the drying and slicing.
They tasted the biltong, asked about the flavours and seemed genuinely interested in the craft behind it. Si tucked into the samples, especially the curry flavour, which was a lovely surprise. Dave was fascinated by the curing process and the spices.
You could tell they loved food, but more than that, they loved the stories behind food.
That is what made the day so special. They were not just there to film a quick segment and move on. They listened. They encouraged us. They gave us their full attention, and for a small business like ours, that meant the world.
Before they left, they gave us big hugs, wished us luck, and left us with kind words we will never forget.
Remembering Dave
Shortly before the episode aired, we were heartbroken to hear that Dave had passed away.
Knowing that our visit formed part of one of his final filmed journeys makes the memory even more emotional for us. It is difficult to put into words really.
In the short time we spent with him, Dave was exactly as you would hope he would be. Kind, funny, curious, warm and completely down to earth.
He made us feel proud of what we were building.
We feel incredibly lucky to have shared that day with him, and it is a memory we will always carry with us.
What the episode meant to us

Being featured on The Hairy Bikers Go West was a huge moment for Inyama Biltong.
Not just because it put our Devon biltong business in front of more people, although of course that was amazing. It meant so much because it felt like a real moment of validation.
We were still a small business finding our feet. We were working long days, making small batches, packing orders, learning as we went and trying to build something properly.
So to have Dave and Si visit us, try our biltong and show genuine interest in what we were doing gave us a boost that is hard to explain.
It reminded us that the story matters. The people matter. The quality matters. And when you make something with care, people feel it.
Found us through the show?
If you have found us because of The Hairy Bikers Go West, hello and welcome.
We are so glad you are here.
Inyama Biltong is our take on proper South African biltong, handmade using quality British beef and real, simple ingredients. Our biltong is high in protein, sugar free, gluten free and made without MSG.
But more than that, it is made with a lot of care.
We believe snacks can be better. Better tasting, better made and better connected to where food actually comes from.
So whether you are a longtime Hairy Bikers fan, a curious foodie, a South African missing the taste of home, or someone looking for a healthier high-protein snack, we hope you find something here that you love.
Thank you for stopping by.
And thank you, Dave and Si, for giving us a day we will never forget.
