We remember the morning clearly. The crew arrived first to set up. We were buzzing with nervous excitement, pacing around the unit, trying to act casual while sneakily checking our teeth and brushing spice dust off our aprons.
Then came the news:
"Dave and Si are making their way over now... and you’re meeting them on camera."
No rehearsals. No prep. Just us, mic’d up and standing outside the unit as the cameras started rolling. And then… the sound of motorbikes.
Dave and Si pulled up, parked their bikes, and walked toward us with massive grins — and that was the first moment we met them, right there on camera.
We were so nervous. But those guys? Total pros.
Within seconds, they had us laughing, chatting, and walking them through our entire process as if we’d done it a hundred times. They made everything feel so natural.
🍖 Talking Biltong, Sharing Stories
Once the cameras stopped, it didn’t end there. Dave and Si stuck around, asked questions, listened to our story, and genuinely wanted to understand why we do what we do.
We chatted about how we started Inyama in our kitchen, why we only use 100% pasture-fed and regeneratively farmed British beef, and how important it is to us to make something that’s better for people and the planet.
Si was tucking into our samples — especially the curry (we didn’t expect that one to be a favourite!). And Dave was really interested in the curing process and our spice blends. You could tell they loved food and people equally.
Before they left, they gave us big hugs, wished us luck, and left us with kind words we’ll never forget.
đź–¤ A Tribute to Dave
Shortly before the episode aired, we were heartbroken to hear of Dave’s passing. Knowing now that this was one of his final filmed journeys makes the whole experience even more special and surreal.
In the short time we spent with him, Dave was everything you'd hope he would be — kind, curious, full of laughter, and incredibly down to earth. We feel incredibly lucky to have shared that day with him.
His support, encouragement, and genuine interest in our little biltong business meant the world to us — and we’ll carry that memory forward always.
📣 What It Meant to Us
Having The Hairy Bikers visit our business meant more than we can say. Not just because of the exposure, but because it felt like validation from two people we grew up watching and admiring.
Their feedback and warmth gave us such a huge boost — and now that the episode is re-airing, we’re excited (and emotional) all over again.
